Welcome to the Central New York Horse Club!
Where you will find breeders, trainers, trail riders, whips, all in one room.
Please join us in promoting horses in New York!

The CNYHC was chartered in 1990 as an organization concerned with educating its members and the general public about issues of horsekeeping. To that end, we sponsor monthly meetings which feature experienced speakers. Topics include training, nutrition, parasite control, behavior, trailering and trail riding, to name just a few.

We publish a monthly newsletter which includes a calendar of horse-related events, meeting notes, and useful information. In addition, we host events such as trail rides, trail trials, a poker run for St. Judes Children's Hospital, a tack sale and the Golden Horseshoe Award program.

Horse enthusiasts of all levels of expertise and any discipline are welcome.

Results from the 2007 Trail Trial:
Sprinkles, drizzle, steady rain and even a little sun faced the 40 determined riders completing the 8th Annual CNYHC Trail Trial. Riders dealt extremely well with the unplanned and unexpected obstacles, such as the fire engines and chainsaws. You just never know what you will meet out on the trails. Despite Mother Nature's uncooperative attitude everyone had a good time and finished in time for the 2:30 awards. All agreed the most difficult obstacle was the drag. The drag was also used as the tiebreaker. Dorothy Marsh, a new member, spent several hours taking pictures which are available at our meetings. Special thanks to non-members, Jessica Bome and Nancy Hart who rode with me all summer helping to clear and mark trails, choosing locations for obstacles and placing judges with the ATV (which ran out of gas 2 miles from the start!). Jessica also judged the question station. All this and she still has time to plan her wedding in two weeks! Several riders commented how much they look forward to the different questions each year. For example, do you know what a Judas horse is? An interesting development is the increase in the number of men riders. We may have to add a division just for them! So guys, bring your friends next year. Another observation is the number of different breeds who ride at the event. There were Quarter horses, Appaloosas, Tbreds, Icelandics, Paints, Drafts, Buckskins, Tennessee Walkers and Halflingers. This proves this event appeals to everyone!! There were 9 entries in the Master Challenge who faced more difficult obstacles. The 360 degree turn at the tire was the most difficult obstacle in that division. I watched the llamas do that one at the Fair. We even had a mini compete in hand over the MC course. She had the most difficulty roping the cow. Her hooves kept dropping the rope!!

The results of the MC were a tie for 1st between Peter Vervaet and Erin Cook. Other placings were Steven Barber , with an Icelandic pony, Andrea Barber, Liz Jones and Stephanie Sher. Stephanie also won the Oldest Horse and Rider award. Amber Reid was the handler for the mini.

Results of the Trail Boss Division were 1st Erin Cook (riding bareback!), 2nd to Ashley Ridgley, 3rd to Debbie North, 4th Steven Barber, 5th Andrea Barber and 6th to Peter Vervaet.

Greenhorn Division, 1st Leslie Hendrix and Jackie Talcek, Next a tie between Kurt Fisk and Renee Dombeck. Then Liz Jones and finally Elaine Fey.

Youth Division had only 4 entries with 1st Sheila Mogren, 2nd Brianne Amodio, 3rd to Amanda Berneys and 4th to Nicole Zarach.

Prizes were donated by Mitchell's Western Shop, the Vervaets, Paula Johnson, Marge Talutis, Deb North and Joann Zimmer and many vendors at Equine Affaire. Thanks to all our judges and volunteers who stayed out in the rain for 5 hours. The judges were outstanding, especially Judge Justin. The crossing guards did a terrific job and the office staff was pleasant and efficient, The parking guides managed not to get anyone stuck. Julie Lonneberg and Dorthy Shank did a variety of jobs. Finally, Paula Johnson who picked up all the streamers when we were finished. Don't let me forget Denise Vespa who donates the use of the grounds and provides that delicious food. If I missed anyone, thanks to you too, and especially the riders who made the event worthwhile. See you next year with new obstacles and challenges for riders of every level.
